Some helpful information before you start...

We have put together some answers to the most common questions that applicants ask us. We hope that these help you. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

  1. What do I need to complete my application?
    • fill out application form

  2. How do I create a new online account to submit an application form?
    Go to https://rijksakademie.heiapply.com/application/register and complete the form, keeping note of your email address and password that you used.

  3. How do I log in to my account?
    Go to https://rijksakademie.heiapply.com/application/login and put in your email address and password that you used to register your account with.

  4. What if I forget my password?
    Use the forgotten password feature https://rijksakademie.heiapply.com/application/forgot. We will identify you and send the password securely to your registered email address, or give you access to reset your password.

  5. When is the deadline for the application?
    February 1, 2018 (23:59 CET/Dutch time: before this date the application form together with all required (visual) documentation must be uploaded before this time!

  6. Can I take my time to complete the application form?
    Yes, of course. You can save each section and come back to it at a later date. Just don't forget your password. Please make sure to complete your application before the deadline: February 1 23:59:59 Dutch Time/CET.

  7. Can I edit after submitting my application form?
    No, once you have submitted we review the information that you have provided. We may ask you for more information, but you can't edit your application. Please make sure to complete your application before the deadline: February 1 23:59:59 Dutch Time/CET.

  8. What kind of digital documentation needs to be uploaded to complete the application?
    The documentation must give an accurate idea of how your work has developed over the last three years. Key aspects of the work should be explained clearly in your application.If you are presenting documentation of collaborative projects, please specify your contribution.

  9. Can I upload moving images or audio pieces?
    We expect to see video when you applied in the disciplines Video/Film/Sound and Performance. Moving image can be an autonomous work or a registration or a work like a performance or a kinetic sculpture.

  10. How many digital images can I upload?
    You can upload a maximum of 10 digital images with a maximum of 10 mb per image. We expect you to upload digital images if you applied in the discipline Painting/Graphics/Drawing, Sculpture/Installation and Photography. It is not required to upload digital images if you applied in the discipline Video/Film/Sound or Performance.

  11. How many moving images can I upload?
    - Have you applied in the discipline Video/Film/Sound or Performance?:
    You are required to upload a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 videos/film/sound pieces of each 250 mb with a total combined length of 10 minutes. Besides the videos it is allowed to upload a maximum of 10 images, but this is not necessary. Please only add digital images if this has an added value in understanding the work, for instance when you also work in with painting, graphic, drawing, sculpture, installation or photography.

     - Have you applied in the discipline Painting/Graphics/Drawing, Photography or Sculpture/Installation?:
    Besides required 10 images you are allowed to upload a maximum of 2 videos of each 250 mb max. and a total combined length of 5 minutes. Please only upload moving image if this has an added value in understanding the work, for instance when you also work with video, film, sound, performance or kinetic sculptures.

  12. Can I track my application after submitting?
    Yes, just log in and use Application Tracker in the Quicklinks menu.

  13. I have submitted my application. What happens next?
    You will receive a confirmation that you have submitted your complete application. After the deadline of February 1, 2018, we will check that your application form is indeed completed and that the required supporting documents have been provided.

  14. I forgot to submit my application before the deadline. What happens?
    Your application form will be automatically submitted, but only if you have completed 100% of the application form. All complete applications will be definite after the deadline of February 1, 2018. See question number 13 if your complete application was automatically submitted at the deadline.

  15. Can I contact someone about my application?
    Yes, if you have any questions during the admissions process please get in touch with us via the Communication Inbox in your Quicklinks Menu once you login.

  16. What is the maximum file upload size?
    Maximum upload size is 10 mb for digital images and 250 mb for moving images. File types: doc,xls, pdf, jpeg/jpg.

  17. What happens after the deadline?
    You will receive a confirmation of your application by the end of February. After we have checked all completed applications we will inform you about the selection process. You will be updated about the process through email, the Communication Inbox in the application form and the News & Update feed in the application from
