Some helpful information before you update...

We have put together some answers to the most common questions that applicants regarding ask us on updating the form We hope that these help you. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

  1. What do I need to do to update my application?
    • Delete previously uploaded works that you want to replace with new works.
    • Upload new works and description of those works
    • Save application
  2. How do I log in to my account?
    Go to https://rijksakademie.heiapply.com/application/login and filling your email address and password that you used to register your account.
  3. What if I forget my password?
    Use the forgot password feature https://rijksakademie.heiapply.com/application/forgot. We will identify you and send the password securely to your registered email address, or give you access to reset your password.
  4. When is the deadline to update the application?
    1 October, 2020 00.00 (CET). Please note that the application form together with all required (visual) documentation must be uploaded and submitted before this time!
  5. Can I take my time to complete the application form?
    Yes, by saving each section and come back to it at a later moment by logging in with your e-mail address and password. Remember to save your username and password.
  6. Can I change my application after 1 October?
    No, once you have submitted you can't change your application anymore after the deadline of 1 October, 2020, 00.00 (CET).
  7. What kind of digital documentation needs to be uploaded to complete the application?
    The documentation must give an accurate idea of how your work has developed over the last three years. Key aspects of the work should be explained clearly in your application. If you are presenting documentation of collaborative projects, please specify your contribution.
  8. Can I upload moving images or audio pieces?
    We expect to see video and/or audio when you applied in the disciplines Video/Film/Sound/Digital and Performance/ Social Practice. Moving image can be an autonomous work, a registration, or a piece that involves time/movement such as a perfomance or a kinetic sculpture).
  9. How many digital images can I upload?
    All applicants are required to upload a minimum of 10 digital images with a maximum size of 10 MB per image.
  10. How many clips/moving images can I upload?
    Applicants can upload a maximum of 2 moving images/sound pieces. The files cannot exceed the size limit of 100 MB. Please use the compress tool found in the application form to downsize files. We are aware this might not be the best version of your video, but due to the process we cannot accept bigger files. You will not be judged on the quality of the compressed files.


    The total combined length of the uploaded moving images/sound pieces cannot exceed 5 minutes.
    If you apply in the discipline Video/Film/Sound/ Digital or Performance/ Social Practice you can also upload 1 digital image/slide with Vimeo links (including passwords if necessary) to additional works that are not part of your application. The jury might look at the links if there is a need to see more material. Please note: adding Vimeo links is NOT mandatory.
  11. I already have the maximum amount of uploaded documentation. Can I still add new works?
    You will first have to delete previously uploaded works, before uploading recent works. The maximum amount of documentation stays the same, 10 digital images (and 2 audio or video pieces).
  12. I have updated my application. What happens next?
    You will receive a confirmation that you have submitted your complete application. After the deadline of October 1, 2020, we will check whether your application is indeed complete and that the required supporting documents have been provided.
  13. Can I contact someone about my application?
    Yes, if you have any questions during the admissions process please get in touch with us via the Communication Inbox in your Quicklinks Menu once you logged in.
  14. What is the maximum file upload size?
    Maximum upload size is 10 MB for digital images and 100 MB for moving images. File types: jpeg/jpg or mp4 and mp3.
  15. What happens after the deadline of the application?
    You will receive a confirmation of your application by the end of October. After we have checked all completed applications we will keep you informed about the selection process. You will be updated about the process through email and on the homepage of your application form.
